Which? has released new findings from a survey of 2012/13 university freshers, which looked at how students’ expectations of their first semester at university match up to the reality. Reassuringly, more than half (54%) of those surveyed found it easier than expected to make friends, and 56% are finding their course to be better overall. But on the downside, almost half (44%) said that managing money at university is more difficult than expected.
Findings from the research have been drawn into an article by Which? with advice to future university students on how to cope with their first semester. The article tackles everything from budgeting to making the most of freshers’ week, and is accompanied by a fun infographic that shows the ‘first semester in numbers’.
The research, which was carried out by YouthSight, is based on an online survey with 1,200 freshers conducted in December 2012. Commenting on the findings, Mia Lorenz, Associate Director at YouthSight, said “we’re so pleased to have helped Which? add unique and insightful content to the Which? University website. It’s such a great resource for university applicants!”
