Mariah - The Marmite of Christmas Pop

With the festive season well and truly under way, The Student Panel asked a representative sample of 1,000 university students across the UK which Christmas songs they loved and hated the most?

Scumbags and maggots were the order of the day with one in six students spontaneously nominating ?The Fairytale of New York? by The Pogues, taking it to the top of the list for the all time favourite student Christmas song.

Poor old Cliff Richard came out worst, with his songs topping the list of worst ever Christmas songs, especially ?Mistletoe and Wine?.

Mariah Carey has students divided, however, with ?All I Want For Christmas Is You? coming in the top three of the best and worst lists ? students either love it or hate it. Is Mariah the Marmite of Christmas pop?

We also asked the same students what presents they wanted for Christmas this year. At the top of the student wish list for Santa was money, with 13% hoping for some cash this Christmas. Next on the list were clothes, bags and accessories, or iPods and MP3 players.

On a nice note, 6% said they just wanted be with their family, boyfriend or girlfriend (aaaaah).

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from The Student Panel!!
